Klitoria, better known even today by its older name Mazeika, is a large settlement of the Municipal Unit of Klitoria of the Municipality of Kalavrita. It is located in the southeast of Achaia in the middle of the plain of "Katsana" or "Mazekos" (today Arroanios) and is surrounded by the Helmos River. It is 25 km from Kalavrita, 98 km from Patras, 200 km from Athens, and 60 km from Tripoli. Its current name comes from the ancient Klitoras. Klitoria is built amphitheatrically on a small hill at the point where the river Klitoras flows into the Aroanios.
Before the revolution of 1821, the inhabitants of the nearby village of Mazi had their gardens and fields in the area, some of them even had huts, which is why they called the area 'Mazeika Kalyvia'. After the revolution, the inhabitants of Mazi moved to Kalyvia, building the present head village called Mazeika. Fast, from 1830 it became an important commercial centre of the region and a transport hub. Konstantinos Panopoulos, a robber, came from Mazeika.
During the German occupation and on 14 December 1943 the German army looted and burned most of the village as part of "Operation Kalavrita".
Klitoria has been highly developed and has many sights and historical monuments worth admiring.
