Our region is loaded with legends and traditions and one such tradition concerns the one of a kind, natural monument, the Vine Tree of Pausanias.
This vine is located on the road Kalavrita Clitoria-Tripoli, in the Kotsioleti Hani, Settlement Sella Pangrati Kalavrita. It is 10 km from Klitoria and 40 km from Kalavrita.
Climbing the huge, century-old holly trees, the vine Pausanias has 100m. length is a composition of nature, with unparalleled beauty. It was declared a monument of nature to be preserved (after the actions of the Association of the Kalavritan soldiers of the Pancras "St. John Theologian") by the decision of the Minister of Agriculture No. 44049/2526 (F.E.K. 738/2.3.1976). According to the legend, Pausanias, travelling from Orchomenos Madinia and wandering along the banks of the Aroanios River, stopped to listen to the 'toothless fish'! He wanted to ascertain for himself the rumour that the trout made a sound similar to the bird's "thrush" call. He then paused to rest in the shade of the Clematis and, impressed by this rare and bushy phenomenon of nature, recommended that local people should look after and care for it.
